Skin-fermented deliciousness, with ginger, white florals and jasmine on the nose and intense tropical ripe pear and golden queen peach on the palate. Lovely texture and drive.
The Not the Norm range is for wines we don't make every year. Winemaker Jane Cooper takes the best grapes from harvest and hand-crafts something special.
Review: “Elegant and complex, the bouquet shows ripe peach, poached pear, clove and dried flower notes, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate delivering excellent power and richly textured mouthfeel. It's splendidly structured by fine-grained tannins, finishing impressively long and delicately drying. 5 stars.” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Tasting Notes
Aroma | Delightfully scented, with notes of ginger, white florals and jasmine. |
Palate | Luscious and intense, with tropical ripe pear and golden queen peach skin texture. |
Food Match | Equally well-matched with light summer salads and whatever you've thrown on the bbq. |
Viticulture | Ōhau vineyard is perfect for cool climate wine production. Late, dry autumns provide cool nights ideal for the slow flavour development during the ripening of the fruit. |
Winemaking | Preserving the vibrant flavours from the vineyard is at the core of our winemaking. This skins pinot gris was crushed direct to an open top fermenter, fermented at very cold temps with an aromatic yeast. It was then pressed and stop-fermented to retain some natural sweetness. |
Alc/Vol | 12.5% |
