Chilled reds are the new black! This limited release pinot noir/pinot gris blend offers a juicy palate of red berries and bramble. Best served slightly chilled, around 10°C.
The Not the Norm range is for wines we don't make every year. Winemaker Jane Cooper takes the best grapes from harvest and hand-crafts something special. In this case, a bloody delicious red blend, with 65% pinot noir and 35% pinot gris.
Vegan friendly.
Review: "Delightfully light-red in colour, the wine shows sweet cherry, strawberry, thyme, subtle spice and floral aromas on the nose, leading to a beautifully rounded palate offering juicy fruit flavours with smooth texture and crisp acidity. Light and refreshing, making it charming and immediately appealing - 4.5 stars." Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Tasting Notes
Aroma | Aromatic notes of strawberry, raspberry, lifted florals, touch guava. |
Palate | Supple and juicy with red berry flavours and a delicate touch of bramble. |
Food Match | Pairs well with summer salads and whatever you've thrown on the bbq. |
Viticulture | Ōhau vineyard is perfect for cool climate wine production. Late, dry autumns provide cool nights ideal for the slow flavour development during the ripening of the fruit. Vintage 2022 was slightly tricky, with some cyclonic weather right on veraison and more unsettled weather through the picking period. Scott Henry trellising on the pinot noir and pinot gris allowed the fruit to dry out quickly after the rain, which helped to reduce disease risk. |
Winemaking | Preserving the vibrant flavours from the vineyard is at the core of our winemaking. The pinot noir was fermented on skins for around two weeks, while the pinot gris was fermented at cooler temperatures to maintain the aromatic characteristics and purity of the fruit. The varietals were blended after the malolactic fermentation of the pinot noir. |
